Question Easy muscle... Help?

Hi all. First poster needing some help.

I had screws put into my femur recently and they had to cut through my hip flexor. Due to stiffness and weakness in my leg, I've had to stop my lower-body weight training. It only consisted of a dumbell circuit (also rehabbing shoulders) with squats, lunges, deadlifts and calf-raises, but now I'm restricted to stretches and stationary biking.

I once read in a magazine that medical-grade anabolic substances put on 17 lbs. of lean muscle on average when tested on a group of men in a 30day period. The test group were not weight training and still achieved these results.

I am in a situation that I have put on 19lbs of fat since my injury, and lost 30% of left calf strength. The doctor is telling me we have to strengthen the hip flexor and stretching just isn't cutting it. Of course, 17lbs of lean muscle sounds pretty damn good, too.

I'm going to continue to go to PT, but I'd like better results. What I'm wondering is, can the test group results be achieved with light to moderate training and some sort of hormone, supplement or chemical? And, does anyone have any recommendations?
