I think you just need to have appropriate programs for in-season and off-season. If your strength program doesn't allow you to perform on the ice then it is not appropritate.

I'd recommend you go to http://strengthcoach.com where you will find tons of specific info for hockey and field sports in general. If you pay one buck you get a 14 day membership but that will get you more info than you ever got from SS in terms of conditioning and appropriate programming. Well worth it, imo.
