i'm willing to bet his form is absolutely shit. unless he provides me a video i won't believe otherwise.

ok, have said this...here is why DFT 5x5 is not appropriate.

the whole 5x5 funda is set up like this:

if you can progress by adding 5 lbs to the bar every workout, you are a NOVICE. if you can progress by adding 5 lbs to the bar every 2-3 workouts you are a BEGINNER.

if you are at a level where you can only progress by adding 5 lbs to the bar every week you are an INTERMEDIATE TRAINEE.

if you are at such a level where weekly progression does not occur, you must program on a monthly basis. this is when you are an ADVANCED TRAINEE.

DFT is a specialized form of ADVANCED TRAINING where it is impossible to progress on a weekly or workout to workout basis.

our friend DV here has a VERY low total. he can barely bench press 135 lbs!!!! doing DFT 5x5 is kinda pointless when he will end up adding like 40 lbs over 8 weeks versus he could do rippetoe's correctly and add 80 lbs over 8 weeks.

lets assume he has poor genetics and his bench sucks. this is fair. perhaps his bench sucks to the extent he cannot progress on a workout to workout or a weekly basis. no big deal. hell, when i did the Texas Method i was also benching 135 for 5x5...but this was because i had never benched before...my bench was 135 whereas my squat, etc were 300+

so back to my point.....lets say he has poor genetics....then he has to train bench differently. he doesnt need to jump directly into Advanced DFT...he can very simply modify his rippetoe program and change it into a more variable 3 day full body program.

regarding his squat and deadlift....i need to see videos before i believe anything seriously.
