Do the BCAAs in a jar not give a lot of bang for the $?
No, they don't. Whey is cheaper per serving. Whey is also naturally rich in BCAAs. You get more BCAAs in a single scoop of whey than two standard servings of BCAAs.

A lot of people, including med. students, and health specialists have told me to consume lots of aminos.
That's what your protein is for.

I compared the nutritional values, but I couldn't find anything different. Does the brown have a special substance?
Wow. Don't know where you read that... Read this: http://www.drlam.com/opinion/brown_r...white_rice.cfm

Malto is listed as the second ingredient, so it's the second-most abundant substance in the packet.
I do about 40g of high GI carbs PWO. Different people need different amounts, but I'm thinking you might be a bit shy. .8oz is 27gr and if it's not even the main ingredient, I think you're not getting as much as you might need.
