I am getting in about 4-5k calories, 5 meals are solid. Preworkout I mix oats and isolate. But in the AM I normally have a weight gainer. Granted most are bad, malto+ crappy whey blends. But I get a more low GI and protein isolate weight gainer.
Back to the point, when most guys come up to me and ask "how do I gain weight?", if I were to respond "eat more " they would normally disregard that suggestion and say "oh I eat a lot" Without looking at someones diet, and going over it with them step by step, I think the quickest way to put on some mass is by adding in a weight gainer.
AVG weight for a guy my height is 150lbs. Most guys that are 150, wont know much about diet. So when you say "food", that may sound very abstract. I doubt they are used to eating more then their BMR.
For guys under 180lbs looking to gain weight, extra calories cant hurt. Its obviously not the best path, but its a start.
