Here's another vid of someone losing the bar with a regular grip. Looks like the wrists give and the bar is transferred to the thumbs instead of being on the skeleton.

I'll bet you that kind of thing is an unconscious attempt to get a better angle of motion or something. It's weird.
Again, not the spotters' fault. Unless you guys believe that the spotters' should have their hands on it the whole time. Which I know that most people hate if I'm not mistaken.
