DMSO wont carry "anything" along with it through the skin. There is an upper bound limit as to the size of the molecule. You will need to check the molecular weight of the substance, if the molecule is too big, it will just sit on your skin and do nothing.

I would also reserve DMSO use for compounds that are not readily bio available orally. No point in wasting DMSO on creatine, when you can just take it orally and its effective.

As for using it with a balm/linament and bruising, that is the first I've heard of it, not really sure what would be in that balm that would dissipate blood collecting under the skin, none the less it would be interesting to find out.
