Default Post Workout Shake

I tend to go for a run after i have trained these days, but i don't do it in the gym directly after as i'm not a tredmill fan, i tend to stop at a field on the way home, so i don't run until about fifteen minutes until after i've stopped doing the weights. Am i best to have my post workout shake before i run or afterwards?
I'm just worried that if i have it before, i'm just running off what i have drank, and therefore its pointlesss. BUT the flipside is i wonder if i don't have it until after i run, is it too late for it to have maximum effect on my muscles, as i stopped the weights 40 minutes before taking it?
