You could start with not doing 20 rep squats. I can't imagine a worse way to start anyway if you are fairly new to dong them consistently.
Do reps and sets that won't cause you to "collapse".
You could also do single leg stuff. That way you get a great workout but the load is greatly reduced. And you could try front squats which are easier and safer to dump if you get into trouble.
