Well not to beat a dead horse but many people complain if a spotter has his hands on the bar. Most people, actually. A "spotter" is not an "assistant" he is a rescue..but nobody is gonna catch a bar like that.

But I agree completely with you. I didn't look so much like he was out of his league to me just that he was handling the bar like a dumbass.

I mean from a technical standpoint, spotting a bench press involve having both your hands on the bar, inside the grip of the lifter, with an alternating grip. From that standpoint it is the fault of the spotter, but most people don't want the bar to be touched and for very good reason. But my point is that nobody can be standing back like that and miraculously catch a bar that suddenly drops. You need to know proper technique. So I can see both ways but to me..that's an accident that could have been avoided.
