Cool 1st and 2nd place.

Well I weighed in at 204 and got second place in my Intermediate No-Gi division and 1st in my Gi division.

There was only me and this other guy in my no-go division and he was a very good wrestler and my judo throws were timed very poorly. The match went on for about 6 minutes and I got his back twice but he was very elusive and managed to get out. Funny thing is he grapples just like one of the bigger guys in my gym that I also have problems with. The guy eventually won my guillotine choke since his clinch work was very strong and wore my neck away with his snap downs. That guy eventually went to get second in the absolute weight division in no-gi. Funny side story, I watched how the guy got beat and tried the same type of game plan with the guy at my gym. Ended up working very well in my favor.. I definitely learned something new.
On a side note, a couple minutes after my match, a competitor came up to me and said I did good and he really enjoyed my match and thought is was exciting.

As for the Gi division, my first opponent did not have good grip fighting skills and I managed to do an inside trip and land on top of him. I went for an arm bar but my position was not the best and he managed to slip his arm out past the point where the arm bar would be effective BUT in doing that he left himself open for a triangle choke, which is what I did and he tapped. About a 2 minute match.
My last guy was cool and his coach was very respectful and came up to me before the match and wished me luck. That meant a lot, shows very good sportsmanship. Well I pretty much did the same thing to this guy as the other guy. I worked my grips but this guy had a much better understanding of what to do. I eventually did my inside leg trip and ended up in his guard. He then grabbed me and tried to gi choke me but in doing so he opened up his guard which gave me a chance to get a leg in and block him from finishing his choke. I passed his guard and got mount and that is when I arm barred him. He didn't tap at first and I was out of position a little so I tightened up and applied more pressure but the whole time I'm thinking, "Please tap, I don't want to pop your arm out." and just as I thought that his elbow popped twice and he tapped. I quickly let go and asked if he was ok and said sorry. He was good and not mad about it. His coach came up to me again and congratulated me. That was about a 3 minute match.

This being my first competition in over a year, I think I did good. This was my first no time limit comp. too and was very interesting seeing some of the wars going on. I saw many matches go past 45 minutes, some very exciting some not. I enjoyed it very much and can't wait to get back on the mat.
