I'm going to be an IS graduate (I think) in about a week. I have a ruptured disc (L5,S1). We're in the same boat. Stretching can be good, but it can also cause problems. If you're able to do alternate exercises, then you will be better off compared to the gadget you mentioned earlier. There are so many variables that come into play when you talk about lower back pain. I'm far from an expert when it comes to prescribing any kind of rehab related exercises. I'm sure that you've developed some compensation patterns over the past 4 years also. APT, PPT, tight hips, and tight hamstrings, are just a few things to look into. Overall posture, your seat, desk height, etc all come into play also...
