Not quite, but you're on the right track. Stronger means that its stiffer (stiffness is a measure of how much something bends or defelcts when you apply a force to it). Earthquakes are like women, they are attracted to stiff things
. The stiffer it is, the more the attraction. More attraction means more earthquake forces going into the structure which means more damage.
Flexible structures are not very appealing to earthquakes so they won't bother with them too much <insert analogy on women> and the forces are not nearly as high.
