As a post workout supplement, gainers can be better than food. Also, like Kane said, they can be great when you're not in the mood for food. I eat so much & so often that I get sick of it. For me, having a gainer is an easy way to get in 800-1000 calories in a meal without feeling like shit afterwards.
The walmart brand should be fine. Muscle Juice by ultimate nutrition is a good deal. It's $25 at prosource.net for 10lbs. I've been thinking about ordering that. Dymatize's Super Mass Gainer is a good deal also, but I've heard it tastes like ass.
