Believe it or not, a recent study has shown that mouthwash enhanced both endurance performance and power output during exercise.
The British researchers who performed this study discovered that people given mouthwash to swish around and spit out, actually performed 4 % better during the hour-long cycling test. The participants couldn’t drink the carbohydrate-containing mouthwash so they could not have received any energy from the treatment. This led the researchers to suggest that stimulating the carbohydrate receptors in the mouth maybe important to enhancing workout intensity.
If you're training hard and following a low-calorie diet, a dose of mouthwash in between sets may be a neat trick that lifts your performance.
