Well, today (or technically yesterday) was my first meet. I'm pretty pleased with the overall result.

I ate some greasy food the night before & took a bunch of stims & whatnot in the morning before squatting. I didn't know whether to puke, shit, or pass out. I don't even remember most of it because I was so fucked up. It cleared up after squatting.

I squatted 355 with crappy form for my first attempt. It was very easy. The second and third attempts, I received the squat command and moved my feet a little and got disqualified both times. I really, really need to work on my setup. I had 385 on the bar both times and I was looking forward to trying 400. On the bright side, I saved my lower back.

I hate bench. I smoked 205, did 225 fairly easily, then got stuck on 235. Not much to say about it.

I haven't deadlifted over 400 in a few months & my lower back has been dead for the past month or so. I opened with 385 & smoked it. Next I tried 420, which would give me the 1000lb total I was looking for & I got that, although it felt heavy. Third attempt, I pulled 440. The bar slowed down when it got to my knees, but I managed to grind it out. It was definitely the most difficult lift of my life, but I stuck with it. It was a great feeling...I got the biggest ovation of the day from the crowd for any lift. Everybody went crazy and I ended up getting congratulated for that pull by about half of the other 70 lifters at the meet. Several people said it was one of the top two or three attempts at the meet all day...which is a huge compliment. It was a 35lb PR also.

Like Phil, I came in first place in my division (Raw, Juniors, 198). I weighed in at 196. Interestingly, my buddy that I talked into competing signed up at the same time as me under Men's. He didn't realize that he could sign up as a Junior, so he signed up under Raw Men's 198. He won his division (his total was 230lbs higher than mine) and because he didn't compete as a Junior, I was the only person in my division, so I took first also. Five guys from my gym competed & we all took 1st in our divisions.

I knew what I needed to work on before the meet, but it's even more apparent now. It was a great experience. I put together a 1020 total, so I have a good reference point now.
