IMO 495X1 is a bad idea before attempting 505. I mean there is essentially no difference between the two weights when you consider percentages and the strain it puts on your body. After a certain point, 10lb means a lot less.
I agree that more singles might have been a good idea. If it was me, I would have done 405 for a couple of singles. 455 is 90% of 505. IME there has never been a need to do an acclimation with a weight over 90%.
