It makes sense. You're just fighting your body's natural reaction to reduce the stress. As you go down deeper and deeper, the stress increases so naturally you would want to decrease that. Anyways, you're not far off so I think it's just a matter of forcing yourself to do it a couple times and learn what a proper depth squat feels like.
Personally I squat pretty much A2G every time I train unless its with a box or pins etc. However, I dont' compete so I guess that puts us in a different boat... also you are a F load stronger than me.
