Wikipedia is like the proverbial broken clock. The problem is you've got a bunch of people expounding on stuff they know very little about and trying to sound sophisticated and smart. It can be a good source sometimes and at others it is just one guy coming on and editing so as to sound smarter than the last guy.

Both of the things you mentioned could lead to hypertrophy and both could be used at one time or another.

5x5 is NOT a superior way of building mass if that is your primary goal. The "power" of the 5x5 has become almost mythical, lol but it is a compromise between mass and strength. A middle ground. Adding reps is definitely a goal for bodybuilding.

The problem with the wikipedia entry you provided is that "weight training" as if it's goal is to "build muscle". Weight training is like saying "resistance training"...there may be many goals for doing that.

If your goal is to build muscle you don't go around thinking about "sarcoplasmic versus myofibrillar hypertrophy" and whether this or that makes you bigger or more "athletic". You think about growing muscles and doing what it takes to get there. And at some time or another all the parameters that are pure to strength training and to bodybuillding cross.

While all those big words sound impressive they really tell one nothing at all about how to build mass.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.
