Whey protein will probably yield better results because it has more actual protein. look at the comparabiles on serving size you should be able to compare. That aside, the idea behind gaining lean muscle is to keep feeding your muscles. If you are not building muscle you are loosing it there is no in-between. Whey is so ideal after you work out because it can be absorbed by your body within the 35-45min anabolic window post work out. If you were taking the protein before, you could take whey but I would look at a complex or egg prtotein. Last, if trying to really burn fat take simple aminos and/or your fat loss before and whey after. then simply keep your protein consistant through the day.
