Eat SOMETHING within 30 minutes of waking up, and eat as soon as possible after lifting weights (this is why people take shakes with fact acting carbs and protein). Breakfast is important because if you do not eat, your body will behave as if it was still asleep. In addition, your body has been without nutrients for 6-10 hours and it requires them at all times if you're plan is to pack on a lot of muscle.

Kevsworld is right, supplements are highly over rated. The only supplement with concrete evidence to support its effectiveness is creatine, best taken in the form of creatine monohydrate.

And like the other guys say, mastery of the main compound lifts are mandatory for putting on a lot of muscle.
