agreed, the first thing you should look at if you're not gaining the muscle mass you want is your dieting, then training, then if need be supps to help you get your recommended macros in.
Once you look into your diet and adjust accordingly, then you could start looking into such things as creatine, fish oils, mutli-vitamins, and pre-workouts.
Whey is a sure thing though, post workout and perhaps a casein protein or cottage cheese before bed.
just make sure your getting your diet checked!
