Your post workout shake is going to want to be a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein, the carbs being a 50/50 mix of maltodextrin and dextrose. The size of the shake is based on your lean body mass. A 150lb. person is going to want about 75g of carbs and 25g whey protein. I also put Creatine in my shake but if you don't supplement with it, then you don't want to. However, the only substance you will take that has conclusive scientific evidence to support its use is Creatine so you're gonna want it.

Some people will call this dogma, but it's worked for a lot of people, and a lot of "important" people in the bodybuilding community vouch for it. It works for me so I go with it.

Things that will help your overall health and wellness, and arguably help your body building: fish oils, multivitamins, amino acids, etc. As a beginner I'd stick with the carbs, protein, creatine and multi vitamin though.
