Like they said, whole foods are better than powders...

Dont get the vanilla, it doesnt taste very good by itself, you have to mix in some pb or something..

Vanilla isn't that bad. I prefer a mix of vanilla and chocolate. Has anyone tried strawberries?

I have prepared for competition with and without protein powders. To me, the desire of sweet (candy, sugar etc) is a big problem on diet. I make my protein shakes with unflawored whey and water. I add plenty of non-calorie juice concentrate to the mix to make it very sweet - allmost disgustingly sweet. This takes away all the itching of my sweet tooth and makes cutting down a lot easier for me.

Protein shakes are perfectly fine on a cutting diet IF you combine them WITH a whole food meal. So if I'm eating some chicken breasts with broccoli for meal #1, I'll drink a scoop of protein down while eating my meal. Shit, how the fuck else are the big guys supposed to hit 1.5 x's their weight in protein?! I'm currently hitting 450 grams of protein on training days while cutting.. And there's no fucking way I'll be doing that without some powder because there's only so much time in the day!

LOL!.. Sorry TALO, I didn't see your post in case you're wondering why I'm such an asshole not responding. :D

Yup, A LOT of protein! I was normally around 350-375 grams of protein when I started with IA. I thought I was higher, but fitday told me otherwise. Needless to say, I was undereating! Now I'm at 450 grams protein. Fats hovering around the century mark rain or shine (for the time being), and carbs are being cycled all the time so it is always different. :)

Grocery bills?.. Yup. There's ways around a heavy grocery bill though, even with my excessive eating. Carbs and fats are always cheap, and protein I usually get from Costco or other wholesale places. If I'm behind schedule at any point throughout the day, I could either add another scoop of protein during a meal, or throw in a can or two of tuna fish to catch back up.
