Default Am I too old?

Hello I have a good physique as I used to be a gymnast. I would love to start bodybuilding but am I too old to start? I have just turned 42 at the end of April. I do go to the gym and lift weights but dont see much muscle definition. I was told I have the potential to build muscle because of my shape. What can anyone tell me about this please.

Thankyou, Love Jacqui.

im 30 now, and im back to lifting since 2 months, i used to lift weights when i was 17 and i can tell the big difference between the results back when i was 17 and now, but still i believe that i can make up for all those years, if you have amobition and will then you are as young as 17.and beside all that, even if you didnt gain huge muscles the other benefits you are getting to your health are priceless! good luck!

Hi Jacqui, I can assure you are not not old. Am nearing your age, and I have gone back to body building since last October 2005. So far, I have made tremendous gains in lean mass. I also outlift and look alot better than some of those younger guys on our gym.

42 is still very young....even if you were 70 I would still urge you to lift weights (just not as heavy of course lol dont want push it) but at 42 you have NOTHING to worry about, just to be absolutly sure you can get an ok from a doctor after a physical? Which I'm sure isnt nessisary but if you want to go the extra extra extra mile you can do that

Jacqui, I'll be 49 the end of September, I started just about 5 months ago, I know I will never be big, that should have started 30+ years ago, I'll settle for just getting into better shape and remaining active as I get older, But I also feel a lot better since I started. I am making gains very slow but none the less gaining. This is a great place to ask questions and read up on all kind of info, everyone on this site is ready & willing to help and is very generous in sharing their experience...good luck
Frank

Default no age limit

there are people in my gym who are aged between real young up to 70 + and im not joking about some members aged 70+ ! So i do think 42 is young when it comes to training ! When it comes to weight training or general CV theres no age limit

Absolutely not! Just doing something is the name of the game...

Are you going for muscle tone/fitness or you want to become a weight lifter?
