Default Hello

As the name implies, I'm 57 years old and in pretty slouchy shape. Quit smoking last August after puffing on the damn things for 38 years. Put on about 15 pounds and got up to 207 (I'm 5'11"). Changed my eating habits Jan 1st and am now down to 188. Still got some fat around the gut. Feb 1, I bought a second hand cable machine and started giving it hell. Low weights and lots of reps everyday (whole body). Did some reading on the net and decided to try to get some definition and have backed off the numerous reps and started lifting every other day. More than likely, I'll be changing my routine again to target specific areas. I've been jumping around the forums and this one seemed very knowledgeable and less likely to blast an old noob if I have some questions.
Unfortunately or fortunately (depends on how you look at it), I was very active until a few years ago but was also plagued with injuries mostly from playing softball. Now, I've got tendonitis in my right shoulder which limits some lifting movements.
My two biggest problems at the moment are 1. my diet (trying to lose weight around the middle and still build muscle) 2. not lifting as often as I want (I feel I need to lift every day which I know is wrong).
I'm thinking about keeping the cable machine awhile longer and then getting some free weights.
Thanks for listening.
