Default 18yo need advice

Ive been lifting on and off since age 14 but im starting to get more serious about it. Mainly i just curl barbells and work my bicep and try to hit my tri's but not really sure how to effectively with just barbells which is all i have at the moment.

If anybody has advice on what i can do to get bigger arms or more definition let me know.

Compound exercises would be a good place to start.

Hammer curls are still curls...

A compound movement is a movement in which more than one joint is 'active'. ie benchpress, squat, deadlift, shoulder press, etc.

Curls only have 1 'active' joint, the elbow.

You'll get bigger arms by getting a bigger body.

i hate curls, but they serve their purpose. they are good to do in conjunction with the compounds that kane refered to.

there are, standing curls with a barebell, standing curls with the dumbells, incline dumbell curls, hammer curls, incline hammer curls, preacher curls, zottman curls, reverse curls machine curls with the rope.

you can use any variance. but like kane said you will c much more progress doing compounds and using curls as accessories

Ok thanks for the advice im getting a bar soon with 250lbs of weight so ill be able to do more productive lifts.

I ordered some whey protein from gnc but havent used it yet and was wondering how much(if any) difference it would make to take it pre-workout, or would creatine be better to use?

Protein and creatine are not the same thing. You can't really replace one with another.

Protein works best if you use it pre and post workout. You can also take your creatine pre and post as well. And yes protein pre/post makes a difference.

both creatine and protien make a difference, but so does not eating like a 500 pound man.
