Default Elk

My boss went hunting a few weeks back and bagged an Elk, thing was huge. Needless to say, he had more than enough meat to share with all of us in the office. I got my share yesterday and ate the steak lastnight for dinner. 6oz of the leanest meat I have ever tasted. This morning I ate some of the ground beef for breakfast with my eggwhites and grapefruit, same thing. This stuff is so good and just so damn lean. I always thought bison was the leanest meat but I think elk has to be up there with it. This happened at the right time, as I was getting so tired of eating chicken breast and tuna.

Got to love being friends with a hunter, nothing better than a load of free game meat.

Never had Elk, but the nutrition breakdown seems to follow your comments on leannesss:

I think venison is even more lean than elk. I still have a lot of it in the freezer. And I'll be adding to it this weekend. Elk is good though...it's right up there. There are hundreds of healthy and not so healthy game recipes online. Have fun with it!

If there's a better/more fun way to eat good protein for ridiculously cheap, I'm not aware of it. My freezer is looking forward to next week, as am I. I'm starting to seriously consider shoving pinecones under my fingernails as an alternative to having to eat any more tuna.

Yeah, I actually switched to tuna for a week just so I could look forward to eating chicken again!

This Elk is only going to last another few days but it was a nice change. I mix it in with some salt, pepper, worschestoshirecheshire sauce, green beans and about a 1/4 cup of cooked Jasmine rice. It was very good!

Beats a Slim Jim any day huh!

I am going to make taco's tonight with the meat I have. Pretty healthy, I don't use all the sour cream and crap. I mean a lil guacomole, lettuce tomatoes, picante sauce and corn tortillas. Not too bad huh? Any suggestions or tips?
