Funny you post this because I was thinking about this over Christmas.

Now to the web site you gave, I agree and I disagree. The way he talks about omega 6's is like they are the devil, which is the name of one of the books he talks about. But they are only the devil if taken in large dosages, which is kinda what he says the world is doing now. Omega 6 is NOT bad as long as it's taken in the right amounts, but with the oils that are regularly used, they are "bad" because of the amount of Omega 6 that are in them and the fact that people do not get enough Omega 3's to balance this out. One thing he left out is, or barley touched upon, is cooking with these good oils and what happens, spoiler alert, they can become bad because they break down and change from the heat. Some of the other sites he points to do talk about this but if you don't know what to look for, it's a little hard to follow.

Good read overall, I just don't like that he leaves out that omega 6 are good, just in smaller dosages than we take now. It's almost like he is doing what others have done with saturated fats, i.e., people condemed sat fats because they raise LDLs but in reality they are needed and not that bad as long as we get them from Natural sources and in small to moderate amounts. I guess the key is to make sure that mono fats are up higher than all and polly and sats are low with sats coming from animals and other natural sources and never use refined anything.

This guy pretty much has the same outlook as I did, and what I thought when I started looking into this.

This is another site that I thought was good for this topic.

http://healthyfat.com and http://healthyfat.blogspot.com

As a compare and contrast. Thanks for the links. I'll read those asap.

The rancid oil thing I've been talking about for a long time. You know it's as if people thing oil is non-perishable.

I like the links. She seems to state thing a little more clearly and has some application for the oils.
You got me thinking and searching now. I found this site which is what I was trying to get at and I think the other guy was to but didn't quite tie it up at the end like this one does.

http://www.optimal-heart-health.com/omega_3.html

also I found this and was wondering if you also heard about this and DAGs.
http://www.enovaoil.com/
Note if you look at the amount of poly fats in the enoval oil, it is A LOT. which is why I was wondering if you heard anything about this and how it compares to other oils.

this site gives more info on digesting DAGs (diacylglycerol oils).
http://www.nutritionj.com/content/6/1/43

In the end he almost hints at DAGs having a toxic side to them. which could link to poly fats which could link to omega 6's....
Thoughts.

No, I haven't heard of DAG's but I just read a thing, from Medscape, that links high triglycerides to metabolic syndrome so that sort of brings it full circle.

I'll see if I can link that...

Dr. Sears, that guy is a grade a quack. I don't know how much you've read but he's a guy trying to sell "pharmaceutical grade fish oil" and bs like that. Which doesnt really exist. I'd definitely take him with a grain of salt.

OOPS! Scratch that. Different Dr Sears! I needed to actually click on the link. I saw Dr. Sears in a link about oil and I thought it was the other one (Barry not William) who I can't stand. Sorry. That's the baby guy, lol. Good stuff. Actually, I'm looking at some of those oils for kids he has on his site.

Eric, what do you think about oils that fortify with omega 3s?
http://www.crisco.com/Products/Detai...=15&prodID=801
and by think I mean how it fits into the artilcs above and if it is just as good as olive oil or better or still the same as it was before.

Well I think it is nothing more than marketing. I wouldn't really give it too much thought.

It's nothing like olive oil as for at the fatty acid content.

I see nothing about the actual yield of DHA. It's also interesting that it lists a gram more of monounsaturated fat than regular Crisco canola but the same amount of poly. Which would mean the DHA must come to less than a gram per serving (1 tablespoon).

Also, look at the type of oil and what you would normally use that oil for in your diet. The only thing I use canola or vegetable oil very occasionally for cooking. I never use it outside of cooking. Any omega 3's in canola oil wouldn't stand up to the heat very well, not to mention the amount you get isn't enough to really impact you diet unless you plan on having too much canola oil...oops...

So, yeah, I think canola oil is canola oil. And I'd be very sceptical as to whether there is really any DHA in there at all.

Actually consumerlab just did a big test on fish oil and products "fortified" with omega 3's. The fortified products did not fair so well. I'll check and see if they tested this product but I doubt it.

No, they didn't have anything like that. They tested a few products like soymilk and the tropicana orange juice with omega's, and yoplait yougurt.

And I mispoke on those because all the product were actually approved. Meaning they had in them what they said they had and weren't contaminated..

But they were not truthful in labelling..or at least misleading. For instance listing a "daily amount" of RDA's for omega 3's although no RDA for them exists.

BTW if cobbled together a bunch of stuff I'd written on fish oil quality which I hope may help people choose, and feel a bit better, about choosing, fish oil.

Fish Oil Quality
