how much potassium?
i have been lifting for a while now and my diet is working well for me. However, monday while doing a set of calf raises, my legs cramped up to the point where i couldnt finish. I think this could be due to a lack of potassium in my diet. I eat two large bananas a day as part of a complex carb/lean protein/mono un. fats diet for over 5000 cal a day. If this could indeed be the problem, what other foods provide potassium? or should i just get a potassium supplement pill?

I think everyone gets cramps at some point when doing calve raises. Looks like you're getting plenty of potassium. Are you getting enough calcium? That's an equally likely culprit. Magnesium deficiency is even more likely than calcium. Are you eating plenty of dark greens? Spinach, okra, broccoli, etc...

ok, yeah i eat lots of greens at three of my eight meals and a large glass of milk at four of them plus a multi vitamin so i think it may have just been a one time think. thanks

Cool. If it happens again, then check out the magnesium. It's cheap. Otherwise you should be fine. I don't remember too many times when I've done a calve exercise and not cramped. :) Maybe that's because I don't stop until I cramp.... :D

It could be soft-tissue quality as well. You may have a lot of adhesions and such. Maybe some mobilization and gentel stretching plus some foam roller or tennis ball (two balls taped together works great) may help.

I don't get cramps in my calves that easy, personally.

Taurine is also good for preventing cramps if the problems continue.
