My only suggestion is you would have to buy individual supplements. Minerals you could probably get in one shot but vitamins you would have to purchase separately. Something of a pain but may be necessary.

Thanks Dr X. That's kind of what I was afraid of...funny it hadn't even occured to me about the minerals. I was having tunnel vision. I think it is necessary. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

Ok. It looks like I can take care of everything vitamin/mineral wise with 3 products. An antioxidant complex to take care of A,C,E plus extra selenium. A B complex for the rest. And a multi-mineral. No big surprise, but many of the multi minerals have Vit D thrown in to help with Calcium absorption. Normally I'd say good for them, but right now it's a pain in the ass. But I found on without.

Normally I would keep extra vit C on hand too. But the antioxidant has so much vit C that I think I will take that post post workout since it can't hurt to have the others at that point, I don't think.

Its kind of surprising that noone sells a multi w/o D or even A cause they are the most dangerous if overdosed.

I always thought that you should take a multi in the morning so your body gets those vits all day long, but as I think would it be more beneficial to take them at night so your body can use them when you're repairing yourself. Or maybe it doesn't matter.

I like to take C after workout cuz that's a good time for any antioxidant and certainly a good time for C since it's so crucial in just about any type of protein building activity and especially collogen, i.e. joints.

I hesitate to take a multi at night because I've found it can keep me up.

Morning is certainly a good time but it's better to take them in divided dosages anyway. The fat soluble vitamins are going to be around long enough for your body to use no matter what, and same with most minerals. The water soluble vitamins are generally not stored but if your taking megadoses of them it's prob not really going to amount to a hill of beans when you take them.

You're right about the toxicity. This can be true of any fat soluble vitamin. But a healthy body is amazingly tolerant to very high doses. If the RDA for my age group is 5 mcg a day, you can take up to 500 mcg per kg of bw before you reach toxic levels and can handle up to three times the RDA for a while (I mean for healthy people, not for me) The D is there usually to help the absorption of calcium, I think.

Vitamin A doesn't appear to be quite as toxic as it once was but there seems to be individual tolerances to high doses. Once person may handle 50,000 to 100,000 IU a day for an extended period while another will break down at 20,000. Also keep in mind that the dosage of vit A in many multi's is divided between A and beta carotene, which can be stored in the body in huge amounts and converted to A as needed.

So it's probably a cost/benefit thing. Most cases of transient toxicity can be reversed when you stop taking the substance and most case reports of toxicity to supplements involve people with a high sensitivity. I'm not saying take more than needed. Most people, surprisingly, according to surveys, follow the label directions (course theres a lot of lying in surveys).

Also, keep in mind that when you take a multi a whole lot of it is not being absorbed.

Anyway, I'm only taking the vit C complex post workout (not immediately). The rest I will take in the morning and then again during the day, probably.
