Default Whats the word on pasta?

I really like the sticky post "What a Bodybuilder Eats", some good info there. But suspiciously missing from the list was pasta.

I know that white flour pasta is one of the worst carbs you can eat, but it seems almost impossible to get in enough carbs without at least one serving/day. So, if my main goal is gain mass, what's the word on pasta?

How many carbs are you trying to intake? I am roughly at 300g and I don't eat pasta. Sometimes I have to watch that I don't get too many carbs, they tend to sneak up on me. Anyway, if you eat pasta eat some whole grain or something like that, stay away from processes enriched shit...it causes insulin spikes (if I remember correctly) and thats not good for business.

Yeah, you can get whole wheat pasta but remember you have to subtract the fiber from the carbohydrate total. As far as white flour pasta one time you can prob. eat it is before workouts although I like a shake for immediately preworkout.

On the insulin spike thing keep in mind that the meal as a whole plays a role. So, for instance, there is a difference between pasta with plain tomato sauce and pasta with meatsauce. Also keep in mind that the amount you eat makes a difference on how high a sugar spike you get meaning just a small serving, especially as part of a bigger meal is not going to have as significant effect on insulin levels as consuming a whole plate of the stuff. My main point being that, no, plain white pasta should not be a staple of your diet, but a little here and there isn't going to make or break you, keeping in mind that things vary among individuals and some people have to be sticter than others.

For the most part you want to stay with carb sources with as low to middle glycemic index/glycemic load...exp. if your prone to putting on fat.

I wouldnt make it a main part of your diet. But since your bulking everyonce in a while it's nice to "live it up" so to speak, until you find yourself cutting fat and dont really have the option to do this lol might as well take advantage of it now right lol

How many Carbs are you shooting for a day at this point? If your having trouble just increase the serving size of the amount of carbs that you intake at one meal and this should solve your problem.

If your having trouble just eating that many carbs look for different types of foods to help you take in more carbs like for instance one banana is around 31 carbs and a cup of oatmeal is around 50 grams of carbs. So obviously if your feeling really full and have to force yourself to eat something like a banana would be ideal instead of a cup of oatmeal since its less filling lol

Quick Edit: Refer to this article on puttin on mass that 0311 posted, make note of what he said he got from the article especially #3 which goes to show you have to have some fun with your food when bulking http://www.bodybuilding.net/training...mass-2654.html

I'd say yes. I buy the wheat pasta. I would only recommend eating it on your workout days, any time before it gets late at night..For instance around 7pm. If you're bulking, your body needs carbs like they're going out of style. The worst thing you can do is to have restrictions of certain foods that will provide your mucles with the fuel/recovery they need to grow. A few servings smothered in some type of meat such as ground turkey or beef is an excellent idea when TRYING TO GAIN MASS.
