Hardgain, have you tried other proteins as well? A few of my friends had that problem and it was because they were lactose intollerant. Even when you did cut the dose, you're still shitting your brains out by lunch time. So it sounds like your body doesn't get a chance to utilize whatever quantity you throw in there regardless. Have you tried isolate on an empty stomach?

I used to have that problem with Designer whey as well. Since 100% whey, I could take upwards of 50 gram servings without an incident.

Oh, and the myth wasn't saying only on an empty stomach, I think you misunderstood. It's saying anytime. On their train of thought, if you ate 2 cans of tuna or a 10 oz steak, would you get the shits as well? :D

To no one person in particular:

Explain to me how Mike Mentzer recommends only 0.36 grams of protien per bdyweight and Bill Pearl no more thab 0.50. The later being a vegaterian.

Niether one of these gentlemen therozied from behind a desk wearing lab coats; however they both did the work.

I could turn around and say Dante, the DC inventor, recommends 400+ grams of protein and he's over 300 lbs! I think the biggest reason as to why he only used a small amount of protein is due to the fact that his training is only once every 6 days. Therefore, he wouldn't need so much protein compared to a 4 day per week trainee. If I lifted once a week, my diet would also be drastically reduced so I wouldn't put on fat. :)

As for the lab coats, I agree that they don't have juristiction when it comes to how much protein we need in a day. However, the topic was about how much protein can the human body process at one time. In that case, the "lab coats" have the final say IMO. ;)

I mean 400 grams. Here's the link to the Metzer article...

0311, I am lactose intolerant, and what you say is true. However I do get the same reaction to tuna, or a steak if i eat too much. Trust me it sucks.

I will also add that i have a history of stomach problems, so obviously what works/doesnt work for me isnt gospel for anyone else.

I also continue to gain strength on as little as .75g per lb of body wieght, which is pretty low compared to what most recomend.

have you tried digestive supplements like betaine HCL? perhaps your stomach isn't making enough acid to properly digest that amount of protein

Okay, this was the first time I even read this thread and....it's Nucking Futz!

How did a conversation get that ugly?

Man...I dunno, I've never really had any problem with Taurus, we just took little "shots" at each other in the past, and I thought it was cool to have a fellow Canuck on here, but....that shit calling a US soldier a "Killer" is pretty f'ing unexcusable. To the service man: Since you'll never get an apology from Taurus, or the like. I'd like to apologize as a fellow Canadian. Whether or not you agree with the war has nothing to do with a soldier doing his job. That wasn't cool at all. :(

As far as the protein discussion: Man, I'm not sure you could do 1000 studiese in 100 countries and come up with the same data. I've read what some of you guys use and I'm completely different. I digest protein differently because my digestive system is very slow (doctor calls it "sleepy bowel") I used to take tablets for it and they corrected it, but I stopped, because I learned how to take advantage of my bodies disability. Because my body digests fluids much quicker than solids, I usually drink a 20-30 gram protein drink with 4 oz of whole milk, and then about 20 minutes later, I'll eat something like a chicken breast or a steak or whatever protein source I'm munching on for the day. The result, for me at least has been that I've got the instant protein in my body after the drink and a sort of "time released" protein for the next hour or two from the whole food source. I really don't think this would work for many other people that don't have my condition, but since I started doing it (since March of this year) I've gotten great results. I used to get piss poor results from my protein supplementation because I'd eat some whole food protein source and it would sit in my body undigested for hours. By then I'd be having a protein drink and they would both get digested around the same time. Now THAT gave me the shits, and I didn't get great BB results. Now I feel better, my erhhmmm..."washroom problems" have sorted themselves out and I've made some gains after feeling like I had plateud.

That's my 2 cents :D
