Default protein source

I'm sure alot of you all know this already but i found out that a 10 oz. can of tuna has more protein in it than most protein shakes. about 50 grams! if you figure the math for the price of tuna vs. the shakes you really aren't saving that much unless you sam's club. but if you run out of shakes theres another good reserve thats easy to carry.

I agree vex, tuna is a great source of protein and with the invent of the new packets for tuna, it's made it very convenient. I'll have a packet of tuna and a packet of mayo, squirt the mayo in there, mix it up, and eat! How easy is that!

I think about the only problem (and the jury is still out on this) is the alleged high mercury levels in fish. This has kinda scared me to cut back on the consumption of tuna. But, I don't know if this is just one of those scare tactics brought about by our beloved media.

I still have about 4-6 serv. per week of this stuff, and I haven't had problems just yet.

Good post vex, I know the vets know about tuna's nutritional profile, but there's alway new people reading the boards, that are new to bodybuilding also and can benefit from this info. Thank you vex!

I eat my tuna mixed with hot sauce, I know its not a very good combination, but I just dont want all that fat from Mayo. I think a 10 oz can of tuna has 60 grams of protein if u buy the starkist brand.

Tuna is excellent and if it's in oil you can get some of the fat you need as well. I've done some research and in my opinion the Mercury thing is a little out of proportion but who knows. The advantage to the shakes is convenience. Easy to slam down inbetween meals for the extra protein and pre and post workout. Keep in mind shakes are not meals, they are a supplement.

Use FF Miracle Whip if you don't want any fat..or anything for that matter except for the consistency of Mayo.

I usually eat my tuna plain but sometimes I'll mix in some mustard for flavor. No fat or anything and it tastes pretty good.

It's not just a scare tactic, I know someone who got seriosuly ill from mercury posioning from tuna. I wonder though if certain brands or varieties of tuna are better or worse than others. Personally I can't really eat tuna anymore, somwhere along the way I got very sick of it and now can hardly bring myself to eat it. That's odd for me because normally I can force myself to eat anything.. just something about canned fish.
