Default Low Carb Ice Cream?

Okay so I got suckered into buying some low carb ice cream made by Blue Bunny when I was at the store today. Its got 2 grams of NET carbs per serving (10 regular carbs) and is made with splenda instead of sugar. Thats a ton less than ice cream which is definately a no-no on a ketosis diet. Actually, its pretty damn good and it seems like it would be a nice snack since eating all fat/protein gets really old when it comes to taste on a CKD.

Has anyone else tried this stuff or something similiar when on a CKD or ketosis based diet? Has it knocked you out of ketosis? I am going to see if just having some of this in moderation knocks me out of ketosis as I am little skeptical when it comes to the whole NET carb calculations on some products. I am guessing it will be fine since this is what all those atkins people do with NET carbs calculations.

I tend to stay away from all this stuff because I don't trust it as being truely ketosis safe, but I couldn't resist today. I'll report back tommorow with my scientific findings ......

Well I ate half of one of those little tubs (2 servings) that had only 200 calories and supposedly 4 grams of net carbs all together. And according to my ketostix I'm still in ketosis the next morning so I guess its a safe little snack as long as you don't over do it. And since its made with splenda there are hardly any calories.

So my conclusion to this very scientific experiment is that the ice cream is delicious

Yeah, I've eaten low carb ice cream, and I use Splenda around the house. I've also studied the Atkins diet, and have used parts of it's principals when dieting. One thing to keep in mind though, it's still hundreds of empty calories. It's not going to take you out of ketosis, but it sure isn't going to help you towards your goal, because it's a few hundred extra calories going in to your body. I guess it's up to you to decide how you use the few calories you are taking in when dieting.

Ya, I know its empty calories but since it has around 7-10 grams of fat depending on the brand its fine as a CKD snack in moderation. Wouldn't recommend it on a regular clean cutting diet though as your right about it not having any beneficial macronutrients.

I like to take some heavy whipping cream and splenda, you can whip it into, of course, whipped cream. Then I put this on the sugar free jello and yum. Makes a great snack and get you some much needed fat. 2 for one.
