Default Regular or diet green tea

After finally realizing I did not have a dependency on diet coke and have sense almost completely stopped drinking it (nothing more than an ounce or two while I'm at work. I work at a restaurant so it being readily available draws me in) I'm looking for alternatives to drink. Water has been pretty huge for me as it should. I drink a G2 during workouts sometimes. I've had green tea before, but I kind of drank it more cause I knew it was good for me not because I enjoyed it. But now I've taken a liking to the taste. My question is, are the benefits of regular green tea greater than the disadvantages of consuming the calories? Or does regular and diet both have the same advantages?

I'm trying to lose fat, have been for a while. I know the calories in regular green tea aren't so overwhelming, but I figured I would ask to see if they were or were not necessary. Thanks for the help.

it's the same tea...just one is not sweetened i think. i believe most of the diets use artificial sweeteners.

i don't think the kind you brew yourself at home has any calories, if you just steep in hot water...but alas...it's not sweet.

I think that you would be talking about the one that you brew yourself. Regular green tea (100% pure) as no calories. The only calories that you would get is from what you add in the mix. I drink it by itself, got use to the taste.
Plenty of benefits by itself, a new study demonstrated that drinking one cup a day decreases 5x your chance to get lung cancer even if you are a smoker. And the list goes on..

I sometimes listen to a late night dieting show on AM radio, and the answers that the guests give for how to prevent this disease or that illness almost always has to do with anti-oxidants, and they always mention any combination of: oolong, black, green tea. Green tea is always mentioned. I would say whatever your goals are as a weight lifter/athlete are, I would still take in a cup of green tea a day. I personally use organic 100% honey to sweeten, but I am not a big person and struggle with increasing my appetite so I can get away with the calories.
