Also depends what you mix it with...Water will cause it to digest faster than milk.

Ideally you want to be absorbing protein all the time throughout the night. A regular shake before bed prob wont even last a couple hours and if you're sleeping for 8 it doesn't make much of an impact on the overall night. You'd almost have to take one before bed and halfway through the night. Prob even one when you wake up too. You're definitely fighting catabolism there but its a pain in the ass to do.

In the grand scheme of a day's macro nutrients, 24g of protein (before bed shake) should not make or break your diet.

I would strongly suggest not using milk in your shakes, especially right before bed. Thats a lot of sugar right before you knok out for 8 hrs. Then again, hunt0r, you dont look like you have to worry about fat gain too much from your avitar, so it might work just fine for you.

Is turkey fast or slow digesting because I heard that there was a substance in it that promotes sleep.

In comparison to to protein powders, whole foods are slower to digest. Your body has to do more in order to break it down than it would with a pp.

And I assume you're referring to tryptophan with the "turkey makes you sleepy" reference. Tryptophan is an amino acid. There's tryptophan in all forms of meats. And if you check the labels on your pp, it should be listed on there too.

Turkey getting all the hype over tryptophan is based on the fact that it has higher levels of that amino than most other meats.

The reason it makes you sleepy... tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, the feel good chemical. And serotonin can be converted to melatonin, which is a chemical released in low light conditions that makes you tired.

You are really impressive IronKitten, tryptophan is what I was talking about. I was putting two and two together and thought a meal that will make you sleep better and give you protein throughout the night would work great.

I did try the cottage cheese ice cream thing tonight. I like it with a peach, I tried to get inventive and put my chocolete PP in it and it was nasty. I will just stick to CC and peaches.
