^^^^Oh I forgot to say that can tuna is going to be less mercury in general than tuna steaks or what have you. It comes from younger fist hence less heavy metal accumulation. Now if you don't mind sardines they are even better (for you ). Less mercury and more omega 3 also.

Search on Amazon for "Crown Prince Natural Chunk Light Tongol Tuna in Water, No Salt Added, 6.125-Ounce Cans (Pack of 24)". Tastes great- not dry at all (and I've tried a lot), and the lowest in sodium I've found anywhere.

I myself have never had any problems. I thought I read something that said mercury poisioning was common when eating large amounts of the albacore. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Albacore, like we said, has a bunch more in general. About three times as much on average, in fact. It may be due to it being a fattier fish...I'm not sure.

Here's a little something:

http://www.mercurypolicy.org/new/doc...inal012604.pdf

Some of that has to do with FDA guidelines and theirs disagree with the CDC's (the latter basically allowing higher levels). Who knows who to believe. The article does point out that even in chunk light the levels can vary dramatically among different brands. We have to keep in mind that we are talking about AVERAGE levels. The major brands like starkist and bumblebee were the worst.

It's children and pregnant women who are most in danger.

Health Canada also recently issued a warning against albacore.

Well unfortunately what used to be healthy is now full of the trash we dump everywhere. I wouldn't worry too awful much about it.

eh, there's statistics for everything ranging from mercury poisoning in fish to what the odds are you'll get struck by lightning.

just find what's healthy and go with it. if you stop to think too much about the dangers it has the tendency to make you a bit paranoid. I mean, apparently drinking caffeine causes heart palpitations and could potentially kill you, yet there's another study that says rats who ingested caffeine daily led healthier lives or something like that... wtf!?

Isn't mercury poisoning more of a problem in farm raised fish? I remember something about this.

Well it is supposed to be with farm raised salmon. I wouldn't go extapolating to all farm raised fish. There are lots of farm raised fresh water fish that won't be a problem. A lot of good info and links there...of course they are trying to sell something so look out!

Farm raised salmon sucks pretty bad anyway. I usually try to find alaskan wild (like sockeye) or pacific wild salmon.
