I concur Kane, its like when you go to squat, and rep say 285-315, and the guy in the next rack (who is a blob) looks at you and says "wow thats amazing" but little does he know that its not amazing, your having a bad day, and you would usually be pushing 385 at this point in your workout.
Or when your upset with your workout, and people say, the average person couldnt do half what you just did. Is that suppose to make me feel better? I train my ass off, i run till it hurts, I push big wieghts, and I sacrafice a lot to do what I do, so yes please, liken my efforts of superiority to the average 35% bf, out of shape, slug, who really doesnt take pride in anything he does.
F'em all.

I think you hit the nail on the head. That's what I was trying to say but the words were escaping me...Which is why I'm not a writer

This whole topic reminds me a lot of the issues with the BMI index used by doctors and health insurance companies. Using a scale based on the average American who is your same sex, age, and height is not going to yield an accurate result when comparing it to someone who has a lot of muscle mass from lifting or athletics. Alot of lifters would be classified as obese or morbidly obese when comparing themselves to a benchmark based on the "average" person.

Those BMI charts tick me off. According to those things I'm obese and *should* be something like 104 pounds. I don't think I've weighed 104 since I was a freshman in high school.

I'd have to disagree with comparing BMI to injuries, hrdgain. Not all of this can be lumped together. Somebody comparing your joints to "average joints" no matter how misguided it may be is nowhere near the same. Kane complained that his shoulders shouldn't be compared to average people. Which is simply misguided thinking. His shoulders and my shoulders are subject to the same physics as a guy stting at a desk all day. Every thing I said was to address that particular issue. You can't just go around thinking "I'm not average" and expect your joints to automatically live up to that train of thought. You likewise can expect to be able to display full strength at all times. It's just the way of it and it must be faced and dealt with. Otherwise problems insue.
BMI is one thing. Strength imbalances and injured joints are another.
What I simply got out of the original post was Kane wanting to think his shoulder were super shoulders compared to the "average shoulder". Obviously that isn't true or he wouldn't be having conversations with therapists. You guys can backpedal and make it some general complaint but no matter how you slice it, to me it's an unrealistic generalization. There are realities that must be faced.
I am seeing a TON of injuries on this forum and quite frankly I don't think some of you guys understand how this stuff will come back to haunt you in a BIG way if you don't take it seriously. I don't want to sound big brotherish again, LOL but there it is. I don't want to see anybody end up with a body as screwed up as mine where everytime you hit the gym you spend as much time trying to keep the joints from going south as you do working out.
I think you are over-generalizing. And I can assure you that NOBODY always has a perfect day in the gym no matter what kind of shape you are in.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

yup i agree. everyone here knows about my shoulder injuries. i have visited my physiotherapist some 2-3 times in the last 7 months and i dont think my shoulders are superior to any average person. infact, under the circumstances my shoulders are worse off than most people. if i dont handle myself correctly i could end up with shoulder arthritis. is that normal for any 19 year old? shit no. i am sub par lol...

yes ur right about this. most of these injuries do haunt u in the end. my physiotherapist said the same thing (apart from u) and so did a few other specialization doctors i met in america. all these injuries come back at u in ways u wont even realize. for example, lets say i didnt treat my shoulder injury. it would "go away" for 10 years. but then wham...id have shoulder arthritis. how badly would that fuck up my carreer? hell, i made a whole thread explaining this.. not just my shoudlers but in this sport people get injured and each of these injuries must be taken seriously. it isnt about being a macho man because choosing that road is only gonna make u wuss when u become a dad at the age of 45 when u cant even curl 10 lbs.
