What's HD DVD? :D Too bad they were a little too slow developing the technology.

Blu Ray is awesome. I wish the stuff was cheaper though. By "the stuff", I mean every aspect. The change to digital filmography is pretty cool....I just finished an introduction to film class and I learned a lot, although I didn't learn anything about blu ray from that class. It's definitely cool technology. I remember the first time I saw Blu Ray playing and also the first time I heard DTS.

hd dvd is just about done for. long long story but to some it up that and blu ray was in competition. blu ray was able to get more stuff and there you have it. hd dvd is gonna be extinct

From what I remember, it was largely an issue of capacity issues. Both players use a blue laser with a shorter wave length. Data is more condensed on a blu ray (or hd dvd) disk than a CD. Blu ray capacity is 25gb single side, 50gb double side. HD DVD came out with with their single layer disc which had a capacity of 15gb. Eventually they came out with a dual layer single sided disk with a capacity of 30gb, but at that point blu ray had already gained more of the market. Blu ray also had a 50gb double sided disk and HD DVD was behind in coming out with their dual layer double sided disk which had a capacity of 60gb. So shit, if you had to choose, HD DVD would be better because of the larger capacity. That's the only different between the two technologies. Yeah, HD DVD started its decline in January...I remember all of the headlines. It's toast. I think the whole reason that blu ray (Sony) survived was because it was a step ahead the whole time. I'm pretty sure all of that is right...that's how I remembered it anyway.

Interesting fact: They actually tried to negotiate some kind of merger or do something to keep from having a run off like this in 2005. didn't work out, obviously.

How much is the ps3 now-a-days? I was thinking about buying one just for the blu ray. I heard the ps3 is cheaper than buying an actual blu ray player??? that's insane...not that big of a console gamer (pc way better) but you get a gaming system to eff around with + blu ray...good dealski!!! until next yr when there's something better out

Ya HD is done. Local stores here are selling the movies 2 for $25 and the players are going for $100. But unless you don't want any new movies why would you buy it ? All the major Studios ( paramount , disney , Warner....etc) have all said they are only coming out with BluRay.

my ps3 was $400....but walmart had some any blue ray player and get a $100 gift i took that and bought some movies :)
