Default Powerlifter???

I got a question to ask ya'll. I was wondering if I can call myself a powerlifter. I use powerlifting principles and well, I'm just wondering what I would have to do to be able to truly give myself the title of being a "Powerlifter". Feel free to comment. The reason I am asking this is because my teacher in class today was asking who was in sports and the people around me were naming off football, cheerleader, waterpolo?, and just stuff like that and I was sitting there and I was thinking that what I did was more of a sport than what some of them were doing. But yeah feel free to comment ok.
