I'm also sorry to hear about this. It sure must be tough to deal with . But Just because you don't THINK you can work out again , later in life (or after the surgury) that is no reason to give up everything. You sure seem to enjoy the life of bodybuilding / working out, eating right, helping people and recieving information. Atleast try to stay possitive, I know it's easier said then done, but you have put alot into this board (and others) use the education to help others in your situation.

I don't really know what to say, I wish you the best....and remember just because the doctors say it doesn't mean it's going to happen. I had a friend when I was a kid, he was born with spinabiphida (sp?) well he wasn't supost to walk by the time he was 10. at 16 he was playing on a AAA hockey team.........so you never know.

We all are given paths in life and the obstacles, that are in the way at time, determines what we will become as people. It shapes us and when we overcome these obstacles we only benefit from what we've achieved in the face of adversity. There are people out there that become paraplegics yet still can become athletes and train. I know it seems bad now but wait until you know everything. Don't let it beet you before you even begin to fight. Hang in there.

I dislocated my knee cap when I was 13 and the doctors all said I wouldn't be able to play sports again or do any kind of wieght training on my lower body... Well I'm playing baseball, soccer, waterpolo, did boxing and karate and even rugby! So don't think your doctor is God, because everytime I get into the squat rack and under that bar, I prove that my doctors were all fuckin wrong. Nothing is over, the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

Beautiful stuff, 0311, Sleazy, hrdgain, TALO, Dave and Kane. I don't think Anuj will find it easy to give up with guys like you looking out for him.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

IMO Anuj there is no reason to think about quitting, take some time off, heal, get your surgery...whatever is needed and then come back when the time is right 10x's stronger. I'm sure the doctors are just making assumptions, I wouldn't get so upset over it...simple as that man. stay positive

ok so i just came back from the meeting.....

i have some great news and some not-so-great news...

ill start off with the not-so-great-news:
1.) i need to do some rehab exericises which is pretty irritating
2.) i cannot allow my muscles to go "unconditioned" for long because as per past experiences, every time i stop training for 7-14 days, my shoulder pops out. so no more goofing off. even if i dont workout, i have to do the rehab exercises.
3.) i cannot do flyes ever again. ok, i dont give a fuck about them, but still...
4.) i cannot do side lateral raises again...
5.) i cannot do pullovers again...
6.) i cannot do Olympic Lifts in this lifetime....
7.) i need to change the way i sleep....no more sleeping on my stomach....

ok, so now ill bring out the great news:
1.) i can lift heavy iron again
2.) i dont need surgery if i handle myself correctly. training in the gym is helping my genetic weakness. it is the extra shit i do outside the gym which is bad....so i have to be more careful outside the gym...
3.) i can do powerlifting and train for strength...
4.) i can begin lifting right at this minute if i want to...
5.) i can tran again......have i mentioned this??

Dr. Irani is a great doctor...unfortunately, he is out of town giving lectures to some colleges in india....so i met his second-in-command Dr. Sangeeta who handled me.....she was also conversing with Dr. Ali Irani over the phone so though i was sitting in front of Dr. Sangeeta, it was Dr. Ali who was giving the instructions...Dr. Sangeeta herself is extremely qualified and usually handles most of his patients so i am not at all worried...i know Eric mentioned in a pm that the fact that in india weightlifting isnt so popular wont affect her treatment and he was correct....although Dr. Irani and Dr. Sangeeta handle all of our national cricket players, a shoulder injury is as important or rather devastating to a powerlifter as to a cricket player.....so all in all, i think i am in very very good hands...

well, she explained to me that lifting 1000 lbs for deads isnt gonna rip my shoulder out, but if i dont take care outside the gym i will damage my shoulder and the only way to fix that is surgery...when i say i have to be careful outside the gym i mean in everyday life like when i wear my shirt or when i play basketball for example....however @ 5'7 basketball is a joke, but i hope u get my point...

so hear is the plan of action as of now:
1.) i start the rehab exercises right away. i have to do them every single day.
2.) i return to america on tuesday.
3.) i begin training wednesday.
4.) i keep doing the rehab exercises and i dont slack off.
5.) i dont quit weightlifting for more than a week and even if i do, i make sure i do the rehab exercises every single day

i would like to add however, that though my shoulder is 100 fine as per the docs, there are some issues...although i have 100% range of motion, squats will initially be a problem because i have to learn to rotate my shoulder and make sure my elbows are pointing downwards...this is why i will be squatting 3x a week from now...

ok, so in advance, this is the workout i plan to follow for a while:

Monday
Squats 5x5 ramping
Incline Bench Press 3x5 same load
JS Rows 5x5 ramping

Wednesday
Squats 4x5 ramping using same increments as Monday but 4th set will be repeat of 3rd set
Bench Press 3x5 same load
Deadlift 1x5

Friday
Squats 5x5 same load
Military Press 3x5 same load
Pull-Ups 3x to failure

i dont know how long ill be able to do this, but i have written a planned progression so i know what i am supposed to lift every session...i thought this out carefully a while ago and i had put this on hold because of my injury, but it no longer needs to be shelved. so this is it. my plan.

thank you EVERYONE for being so supportive. i appreciate it greatly.

So after all that mental anguish and sleepless nights of turmoil, it seems to me that the only major bad thing is this one:

Quote:
7.) i need to change the way i sleep....no more sleeping on my stomach....
That's the only way I can sleep at night. Luckily flyes, side laterals, and pullovers are useless anyways, and you can still grow without O lifts.

Glad to hear. It pretty much went the way I thought it would..
