I don't really think the UFC represents the "cream" of the Martial Arts community.

Oh, I absolutely see what you're saying. The most like a real fight. I concur.
However, and I don't subscribe this to you (0311), we shouldn't base our ideas of how a real martial artist "fights" on the movies. Even accomplished fighters in the movies are choreographed; doing what looks good for the camera, and what the camera can follow. With some exceptions, they themselves are not responsible for the choreagraphy. Hollywood employs professional fight choreographers to achieve that stylized look.
Now, I like a good kung fu movie, but I appreciate more when fights and violence are portrayed realistically. Without the stylized glamour. More like the UFC, in a way. But that isn't what most people want to see. Even with Snipes and all his fancy kicks, I don't assume that is his true fighting style. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Snipes has anything to do with the choreagrphy in the Blade films. He may surprise us. I doubt it, but it's possible.
But again, I agree with your statement in general.

Jean Claude Van Damme got his ass handed to him in a bar fight. Actually, for stand up nothing beats those Thai fighters. I've read somewhere that they took 5 of the very best Chinese martial artists (kung fu, karate, ect.) and put them against the best Thai fighters...Thai kicked the shit out of all them. Half of it due to conditioning, and the other half because they have 5 or 6 moves in their arsenol that work the best. When I got a week of liberty leave in Thailand, they told us to never enter the ring against any of them. They have rings everywhere, a lot of them out in the open with a bar surrounding them. The Marines say that even though they look like 12 year old boys, they'll kick your ass in less than 10 seconds!

yes, but it's not just the moves but how they apply the moves. the angles they attack at are definitely what makes them lethal.

I know one guy from canada that KO someone with a spining back kick and flying knee.
|
One whole guy! Noone enters the ring with a gameplan of spinning anything. I saw one guy that had a devestating spinning backfist and caught one guy good. However, that's the only guy who got caught with it. Everyone else dodged it and used it as an open opportunity to take him down and run the "ground and pound" offense.

yeah, I know that. every smart fighter knows that. you go into a ring with a lot broader plan and then you apply what is presented to you at that moment and if it's a spinning whatever and you know how to use it right, then you do it then.

do you mean Shonie Carter
http://www.ufc.tv/index.cfm?fa=fighter.detail&pid=150
and if so, he has caught many people with his spinning back fist.. it's what he's known for.

Chin, for every 2 links of spinning whatnot you post, I'll post a hundred. That's my point. Those guys that might've won by some oddball kick probably were going against another stand up fighter. Trust me, if those guys were going against a grappler, they would NEVER ever open themselves up to be taken down with a spinning (pretty) whatever.
