Default 2008 Strides For Lupus Walk

Good Afternoon friends! J

I would just like to take a moment of your time to tell you about the Strides for Lupus walk that I will be doing June 14th 2008. Some of you are probably familiar with what lupus is, some maybe not. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects roughly 2 million Americans currently, while it is a rare disease, 90% of those 2 million are women in child bearing ages of 15-45. Lupus affects your immune system to the point that it doesn’t know what to fight off and attacks things it shouldn’t such as internal organs.

I am doing the Lupus Walk because it hits home very hard for me. On April 7th, 2000 I lost my mother to systemic lupus and currently my cousin Desiree who I am very close to has been diagnosed with systemic Lupus, and CNS (Central nervous system lupus). CNS is a newer form of lupus that affects the brain and nervous system.

Lupus at this time is not curable, but large strides have been made in the past few years in treatment. My cousin has had some treatments that have improved her lifestyle dramatically. She still has the symptoms but they are less often then they were and less severe. These treatments give me hope that someday Lupus will be curable and millions of women won’t have to suffer anymore.

The Lupus walk is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and thankfully I have the support of great family, friends, and awesome co-workers.

If you have the time please check out the fundraising site I set up at firstgiving.com to read what I wrote on there, and if you wish any donations would be gratefully appreciated. More importantly I appreciate everyone’s support! Thanks Guys!
