So toshiba (HD makers)has given up and blueray(sony) wins the war!!

Hopefully you xboxers didn't spend the extra $200 on a hd player.

I didnt bother with the HD DVD player for the 360, and I most likely wont bother with a blueray player either, at least not for a few years. I see no point in buying a shit ton of blue ray disks, when in a few years everything will go to solid state devices anyway.

Not to mention I dont buy movies ever anyway, down loading is much more economical

Can't argue with that. It's just a nice bonus to a gaming system.

Oh I agree, if you have a ps3 thats an awesome feature. But with the way that solid state devices are dropping in price, dont be suprised if in the next 5 years everything goes to that type of format. I have a feeling it will be much like the original nintendo/sega systems were. cartridges instead of disks, and I would bet even movies make the change. The only real obsticle right now is price. a 4gig dvd costs pennies, a 4gig solid state chip costs dollars.

You hit it right there, the price. That's the main reason nintendo switched over to disc. But when it comes down to it it's alot harder (if impossible) to burn a cartridge so it may save them money. Unlike disc most systems they just need a chip to play....So they lose lots of $ that way.

No matter what....they will always change it..... Record,8-track,tape,cd,mp3.....

Yup, but think about having 8gig games (blueray sized) but with no loading times, and no moving parts within the machine to break. Most of the original nes/sega/snes/genesis game systems still work till this day. The only real problems came from track alignment, and power sources burning out.

Then again, do they really want to have such longevity? I've had a few games scratch on me, and had to go buy another copy. Thats profit, plain an simple.
