That gym sounds very small. Are you in a small town? My gym has 6 benches, 6 inclines, 10 squat racks and I couldn't even begine to count all the lose benches and dumbells not to mention at least 100 machines.

If they are charging you for another month you better use it.

I think most of them, or at least many of them, are franchised and you never know what you're going to get. But they have a history of this sort of shady billing practice you have to watch out for. As far as requiring notice for cancellation, that's hardly unique to them.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

I'm goignt o start lifting at ym colleges gym, mainly because it's free and I'm hoping I won't have 14 year olds doing stupid shit. I don't want to be an ass and tell them they are cheating like hell, or doing too much weight for lat raises, or bullshitting way to much and lifting like pussies .

You'll see the same shit at the college gyms--especially since it's free. Maybe worse. Try going on Saturday or Sunday morning, seeing all the hungover frat boys trying to "get their lift on."

At Virginia Tech, when I first started going there, we had the VT Weight Club, which charged people. Then the students bitched and moaned that the weights should be free. So we packed up our weights (at least the ones that were paid for with club dues) and move off campus. Then the university had to buy new weights and let anyone into the weight room.

Our reasoning for not taking college money for the weights and let anyone in is that we did not want the "recreational" lifters who would be more prone to injury, more prone to not take care of the equipment (potentially putting everyone at risk), or needlessly taking up equipment time from the more "serious" lifters.

I had gone to the free gym a few times when it was more convenient. It was a nightmare compared to when it was the Club. Sure, they had more, and nicer, weights and machines. But there were also dumbbells all over the place, kids flailing away trying to do curls with way too much weight, and all of the other crappy shit all gyms have to deal with, only magnified to the extent that the gym was open to all 20 thousand students...

I went to golds a couple of times. And all they did was pester me into taking a weight training coarse for 100 somthing a month. i dont know if they worked at the gym or not but i found it annoying.

I ended up saving up 300 bucks and got a good used training set cleaned everything up and now doit in the comfort of my own training room.

Cheaper and nicer.

my Gold's is a shithole too... same thing as you're explaining. half the damn bars in there are so old and bent that you can't use them. at least 1/2 the time i go in there on of the cable machines is busted. the equipment is old as fuck and falling apart but i overheard one of the staff walking a new member through the gym bragging about how they were replacing all the TV's with flatscreens and how the cardio equipment is gonna have individual TV screens so that peeps can watch their own thing while doing cardio?!? wtf?!

the place completely sucks... i've already signed up for a membership at the 24hr Fitness that's comming up across the street that's gonna BLOW Gold's away. i can't wait.

since i've become so disgusted with the joint, i never wrack weights anymore and don't even care about smashing up the floor doing deads/cleans since their too f'n cheap to get bumper weights and/or a platform to lift on. they don't care about taking care of the equipment, well then neither do i...

the trainers their treat the freeweight area like its true purpose is for the fat middleaged housewives to roll around on those damn fitness balls and do 2lb tricep extensions... like that's gonna burn the blubber off those thighs, HAHA

damn i hate Golds.

$52 a month????
Why not just do what toskinny did and buy your own weight set for a few hundred... same amount as a few months at that gym, except the equipment will more than pay for itself in a year, assuming you are hardcore!
