man i would love to be at a 12 right now. i would be living like kanye west if i had a 12 lol jk. bu yeah with computers i would imagine you are able to make more than that and getting funding in the gov is always hard because they give it all to my end. i work the DOD side so when you are building 75 million dollar airplanes on a regular i guess you dont have that much to go around. my buddy who is on a rotation right now went from PTO to some other branch that is so out of date with everything. he cant stand it. he says they have no funding for anything. its to a point to where he said that if they place him there at the end of his roation he will just up and quit.

Monsta, yeah the only reason they are hiring so many is because there is almost a 4 year back-log, now that is what I'm talking about for job security. Since the PTO is the biggest money maker for the gov. we get paid a lot more. That and since the turn over rate is high in this office they offer a lot of different perks, work from home, part time, work from home everyday (it's called "Hotelling", so if I wanted to I could live almost any where and telework every day and only come in the office 1 hour a week, and that is negotiable too).
Hrdgain, with the PTO, it's more like research without the development. I sit in my office and read patent applications and patents and try to reverse engineer everything to see how it works then write a report to the lawyers and tell them, "Sorry but you're not getting a patent." We do have interviews with them in person and on the phone, I have one in 15 minutes, to discuss what they are trying to do and what their application really says. But the job can be very boring at times.

i didnt know they could do all that their. my buddy said he loves it there. in my e-mail group at work he was just telling me how he called his supervisor there and is trying to get a position for him when he is done with his rotation. he is an accountant so im pretty sure he deals with different stuff than you do. do they usually have a lot of 12 positions that open up?

It's not so much 12 positions, it's more they just need people and if you have work experience you get to start at a grade level that matches your experience. So if you are just out of college you are going to start out at 7 or 9 depending on GPA, if you have experience you will start at about what you get paid now, and you get some kind of pay raise every year.

I hate writing letters to family I haven't seen in eons, updating them on my life. They could care less about my competitions. They wonder why I want to look manly (they're in their 80's and 90's). The rest of my life is boring. I have nothing to talk about in a stupid letter to them.
But they send me money occasionally so I have to do it.
Fuck.
