This comes off my check each pay period .Alta Health Care $44 x 2 = 88 month( I'm sure it's different for everyone ) Now considering this covers my Family ( 1 wife and two kids ) This is not bad at all. With this we can go and see a doctor at a medical clinic anytime with no cost , and we can go to the hospital ( emergency room ) for no cost. If we have a broken leg they will fix it for not extra cost , but you will get a bill in the mail for $20 crutches - now that's retarded. If I needed heart surgery or something I wouldn't be charged for it. If someone in my family ( God forbid) gets cancer - they will do there best to treat it.

Now the medication is different. This is what a good job will do for you. My job coverse 100% of my drugs ( there is a list of stuff it covers , but I'm not going there) all we have to do is pay a one time fee of $10 at any drug store to get us set up. This has saved us a few times.

I don't even want to tell you about how taxes .

Then there is a good reason many Americans envy your healthcare system, TALO. Trust me.

If an ambulance is called, you pay half of the ambulance charge as well. Its roughly $100 for an ambulance (in my area), so you pay 50 bones.

wow. talo that's about what i pay a month...for just me. prescriptions can be good sometimes....if you're lucky enough to get a $4 generic...but my nasonex and symbicort add up to about $70 a month or so...as they have no generics

my ER visits have been horrendously expensive...even with no ambulance call...and one overnight stay.

i'm still paying off the tonsils i had out 4 years ago

Talo, is that just what you pay to the company you work for towards your plan?

Everyone in Canada (except for students/children/people making less then ~$9k/yr) gets taxed income tax. There is a federal and a provincial tax that changes as your income increases. Most people pay ~30% of their income to this. This pays for all government things... roads/basic healthcare/police/fire/blahblah.

My ER trips have been cheap, relatively speaking since I wasn't going there for fun lol.

I still have my tonsils so I don't know how those would work. Elective surgery usually costs money though. I had to pay to get my wisdom teeth removed, luckily my benefits covered some of it.

So in America, do people in jail get healthcare? And what if a child is born into a poor family who have no job and no money, does the child get any sort of healthcare? Over here our free healthcare covers dental care is this the same in Canada?

Dental isn't free in Ontario. You can usually get benefits from work that will cover alot of dental work. I get a free cleaning ($100) every 8 months. Plus it covers a bit of the cost of other procedures (benefits vary with companies)

Yes I think people in jail get healthcare. I think the poor family would too.

Dental is not free. If you work for the right place you can get a plan though.
