Kane would you swap your healthcare system for the American system? Or is that a stupid question.

I don't really know a whole lot about the American system, but no I don't think I would. If (god forbid) something serious ever did happen to me, I wouldn't even want to know what the bill would be or have to worry if insurance would cover it. At least I know I won't have to worry about not being able to get medical treatment. That's just my opinion though.

Does anyone remember a film with Denzel Washington in, his son needed an op or he would die, what the fuck was the name of that film.

If an ambulance is called, you pay half of the ambulance charge as well. Its roughly $100 for an ambulance (in my area), so you pay 50 bones.

a ride in an ambulence here can cost thousands, depending on what is wrong with you.
I'm not a big fan of socialized anything, for many reasons. But our system in this country is at best, ridiculous. I've always had good insurance, so I can't complain, but for the uninsured in the country, medical bills can really break you.
I would be a hardcore advocate for socialized medicine in this country, if it wasn't being lobbied for by just about every big pharma company out there.

Something else I remembered.
When I was living in Ontario I had a great job , we didn't have to pay anything for health care ( my work did ) . Then I lost my job and moved to Alberta. Once we registered with the province we had to start paying Health Care.
I remember getting a bill for $500 one month and this was because I didn't have a good job when I first got here.... By the end of the year we had to pay over $2500 in Health care bills and we never went to the hospital or doctor once.
We did fight it and ended up with a settle , but still I was in shock big time !

Between 35 and 40% of my checks go to taxes and medical/dental/vision, and I want to snap sometimes.

I'm with you HG. Then we have to pay more taxes on top of what we want to buy. Plus Housing taxes.....So many it's not funny
I bet by the time it's all said and done a person prob pays 90% of their check in tax ( after food tax , cost of living , heating tax , house tax , road tax, water tax, garbage tax , electric , phone , internet , tv all taxes ,more, tax on top of tax ) We need to make a stand one of these days
