Yeah, that's true about women being intimidated. Not all, but some. There's this Women's Only section at MLG. It sucks when people are close-minded enough to lead to that. I've seen some women pressing impressive weights nonetheless.

Same at golds.

I dont really notice competition much. I just like to go to the gym and do my thing. When i get in my "zone" im almost impossible to bother. doesnt matter to me if i can 50 lbs or 500 lbs. all that matters when i get there is, me getting that much closer to reaching my goal.

I am perpetually in fear of getting stronger because the stronger I get more is at stake, I feel. So, if someone can outlift me, I feel happy. There is hope then.

This is just how I perceive it.

Plus, I am the really quiet guy at the gym who has a stopwatch on and is sitting reading his novel and then when his stopwatch goes off he meanders over to the Squat Rack and does some singles, then sits back down and continues reading his novel.

Zac, I go to Gold's, I just call it MLG (My Local Gym), so it applies to anyone. Where are you from? I'm from San Antonio, Tx.

No.

The guy next to me is trying to do French Dips and check himself out in the mirror at the same time.

You can usually spot the newbs by the guys who use the usual denominations of weight alot. Like 135lbs,185lbs,225lbs etc because they don't actually know what they can lift. An experienced lifter will have 210lbs instead of 205 or 170lbs instead of 165lbs because he is tuned to his body and knows his limits.

Anyways, just go in and lift what you lift and be polite to others and answer questions if they ask.
